Back! Call of Duty: Modern Warface 2 Dated for November 10th... (YESSS)

Greetings all! We've had some webcam issues the last 10 days or so, and instead of just letting the blog go quiet, I figured I would drop some good ol' written blogs in between playing Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection. (If you haven't tried this game, you're missing out if you were a Genesis fan.)

The 2009 Game Developers Conference has been pretty quiet this year, all things considered. Some are blaming the economy, others are waiting for the end of the show and hoping that it brings some blockbuster news. Nonetheless, Infinity Ward did give us a bit of good news with the new Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 teaser trailer.

While it is a teaser without really showing any good stuff, the one detail found in the trailer is a release date, November 10th. While this seems like a long way away, it falls right in line with Call of Duty releases over the past two years, and the Call of Duty 2 release for the XBOX 360 launch in 2005. November is becoming known for Thanksgiving dinner and Call of Duty desert.

The first Modern Warfare game was widely considered the game of the year for 2007, and for good reason. Heading into Q4 of 2007, it was actually under the radar thanks to Halo 3, which had all XBOX fans giddy with excitement. With the Call of Duty series becoming stagnant stuck in World War II, this effort was a refreshing entry to the series. And it was good. REALLY GOOD. The single player story was well put together, giving players a variety of mission goals and situations, with Veteran mode being enough of a challenge to keep the best coming back.

The single player in this game took a backseat, though, to the incredible multiplayer mode, which is still going strong with thousands of people still fragging each other on a daily basis. The game is a mainstay on the XBOX 360 Top Ten Played list each week, nearly 18 months after its original release.

I state all this to put the upcoming sequel into perspective. Before it is all said and done, this game will likely have a GTA IV or Halo 3 level of anticipation and expectation. Infinity Ward will have a lot to live up to, and while we haven't seen anything yet, there is no reason to think that IW will not provide another classic.

I'm just hoping there is another open beta so I don't have to wait eight months to get my hands on it :)
